Clover Brooks has always felt a stronger connection with those at the end of their life than in the middle of it. She dedicates herself to ushering people peacefully through their end-of-life process as a death doula in New York City - a job she loves, even if other people find it weird.

On her shelves at home, she keeps three treasured notebooks where she records her client's last words: one is labelled ADVICE, one CONFESSIONS, and the last REGRETS.

Then the final wishes of a feisty old woman send her on a trip across the country to uncover an old love story. But can Clover finally open her own heart - and save herself from one too many regrets along the way?
