The bicentenary of Jacques Offenbach's birth falls on 20th June 2019, so this is a timely re-release of these much-admired recordings (made between 1998 and 2005)

of three of his most famous operettas. They are brilliantly interpreted by one of today's leading French conductors, Marc Minkowski, and by superstars singers with an impeccable sense for French style: Natalie Dessay, Felicity Lott, Patricia Petibon, among many others. Moreover, all three recordings reflect the theatricality of stage productions by Laurent Pelly, a master of operatic comedy on the world's stages.

These are undoubtedly the most idiomatic and theatrical versions of these operettas to have been released over the last 20 years. Marc Minkowski is noted for his musicological skills and he prepared special performing editions of the operettas in this box. This Orphée, for instance, combines the original version of 1858 with the best numbers from the well-known revision that Offenbach made in 1874 when he revived the work following the Franco-Prussian War. The casts include many of the leading French opera singers of today and recent decades, along with singers born elsewhere who are celebrated for their command of French style. Among them are: Natalie Dessay, Felicity Lott, Véronique Gens, Patricia Petibon, Yann Beuron and Laurent Naouri.
