On a dark and lonely road late at night our main character, "Troop," drives upon the scene of a violent wreck between a large van and a Tennessee State Trooper car. There are two men firing weapons into the crushed cruiser and when our main character sees that they also intend to burn the cruiser and its contents, he reacts instinctively and kills the two shooters with an old Model 12 Winchester. This event results in the saving of the life of a Federal District Judge. Our man "Troop," is then appointed by the Attorney General of the U. S. to a special protective position for the same Judge. The Judge is at the process in legal proceedings of handing down his findings. There are crucial shady corporations and individuals who will make every attempt to kill the Judge who is threatening to blow their criminal activities of drugs, guns and child slavery. Troop cannot trust anyone but his old friends to help him and the Judge through a tightly woven, information full and intricate path to truth.
