The Shoe Tree
Doris Oberstein
Driving through Nevada to visit his parents, Liz and Dwayne Talbott discover a tree which has every type of footwear hanging from its branches. As a freelance magazine writer, Liz feels the energy of this unusual place and is inspired to write her first novel. Each vignette revolves around the person who has left more than a pair of shoes - each story is a poignant, emotional experience. THE SHOE TREE has almost as many plots and characters as chapters. They involve love, grief, celebrations, guilt and retribution. These stories are about real people; some wholesome, some flawed, and some with complicated family histories. The fifty shoe trees growing throughout the United States vividly portray our unique society.
