Kinnor
Jonathan L Friedmann
The kinnor (biblical lyre) is an important and multivalent symbol in Jewish and Christian thought and artistic expression. This collection of scholarly essays brings together interdisciplinary perspectives on the venerated instrument. Beginning with studies of biblical and rabbinic texts and continuing through contemporary artistic and musical examinations, the contributors apply historical, theological, musicological, aesthetic, and cultural analyses to uncover the kinnor's many meanings, functions, and representations from ancient times to the present.
