Peer-to-peer Collaboration: Concept, Design, and Reference Implementation of a Peer-to-peer Collaboration and Task Distribution System for Ad Hoc Teams
Martin Scheibl
This book is about a conceptual design and realization of a groupware system. It employs the peer-to-peer methodology and was designed to help ad hoc teams to collaborate and to communicate with each other without the need of a central server. A project management application was integrated to schedule project tasks which can be assigned and distributed to discovered peers. Peers can report the status of their tasks back to the assigning peer. Following the peer-to-peer methodology, each peer can act as a project manager (server) and as an executing team member (client) at the same time. The reference implementation was designed and realized in Java in order to be independent of specific platforms. In addition, a graphical user interface was developed to simplify the use of the software. The peer-to-peer concept was realized by using the JXTA platform.
