It has been said that most historical fiction novels are thinly veiled renditions of the truth. If that is true, the author tells the tale in such a way that would reveal intimate material cloaked within the shadow of fiction. Loaded with actual events, it's hard to tell where reality ends and fiction begins. He takes us into the mind of the main character based upon himself and enables us to experience what so many soldiers have experienced in a very realistic way, and then demonstrates what only a few have endured behind enemy lines. He takes us on a failed recon mission and into a Viet Cong village where life hangs in the balance dependent upon making right choices. Then it's on to the execution of a double agent spy and exposure of a top secret operation. Although fictional in part, this sequel to the author's autobiography "The Youngest Green Beret" is inspired by personal experiences of the author and other team members. Character names are real. Living persons have granted permission to use their names. If you are familiar with the authors autobiography, you will recognize names and some events.
