The Greater God

The Bhagavad Gita is probably the most influential writing of the Indian religious faith known as "Advaita", it is a sound pathway leading to a true understanding of God. The Sanskrit word Advaita means "One, not two, not many", so like the Hebrew and Christian faiths, it is monotheistic. The Advaita faith developed over a period of around six centuries from 600 BC to the advent of The Christian era, and saw the decline of the orthodox Vedic religion and the emergence of a more spiritual faith. The word "Vedanta" means the end of the Vedas, so the full title of this faith is "Advaita Vedanta". The teaching within the Gita should not be thought of as "just another religion". It is so much more than that, those of any monotheistic faith may practice the ideas contained in the Gita and enhance the teaching they already know. It describes the condition of man born of nature and man the divine being, and provides the path which we can all follow to become the divine beings which God intended us to become. Man is naturally born with a Rajasic nature, his primary objective is survival. Many people do not realise that there is more to life than seeking material gain and wealth, and attempting to satisfy each and every physical desire. The object of this study is to help people discover the divine principles and values of the Sattwic nature, and adopt them as their guiding principles for daily conduct. This knowledge is difficult to come by in the Worlds mainstream religions, since they do not emphasize this distinction or give training in meditation. Perhaps this lack of knowledge and practice is responsible for the poor state of the world today and the people in it?
