Renown Pictures Crime Collection Volume

Collection of crime thrillers from the 1940s to the 1960s. In 'The Girl On the Pier' (1953) crooner Nick Lane (Ron Randell) and his partner Rita Hammond (Veronica Hurst) take a holiday to Brighton, however, their intentions involve more than simply sightseeing. Meanwhile, wily Chief Inspector Chubb (Charles Victor) also happens to be in the seaside town and it isn't long before the pair's scheming ways catch up with them.

In 'The Scarlet Web' (1954) Laura Vane (Zena Marshall) hires Jake Winter (Griffith Jones) to help her retrieve a letter that is being used to blackmail her. However, both of their identities are not strictly who they say they are. In 'The Listener' (1956) Sheila (Ida Lupino)'s efforts to murder her husband do not go to plan when her elderly father-in-law (Ralph Moody) hears about her wretched plans.

However, his only means of communication is through his eyes. In 'Crime Without Clues' (1948) reporter Mike Kent (Richard Fraser) does all he can to unravel the mystery behind a series of deaths due to poisoning. 'Vacant Possession' (1966) is a short film directed by Peter Moffatt, starring Daphne Heard and Brian Murphy.

In 'The Way Out' (1955) Greg Carradine (Gene Nelson) confesses to his wife Terry (Mona Freeman) that the police are looking to frame him for a murder he did not commit. Despite initially believing her husband, and successfully hiding him from capture, Terry soon grows increasingly concerned that her husband may not be so innocent after all. 'In 'Escape By Night' (1953) journalist Tom Buchan (Bonar Colleano) meets with Italian crime boss Gino Rossi (Sidney James) in an abandoned theatre in order to hear his life story.

In 'Colonel March Investigates' (1957) the enigmatic Colonel March (Boris Karloff) takes on a series of mysterious and unsolved crimes. In 'Crooked Sky' (1957) a British-American counterfeiting gang are investigated by burly Mike Conlin (Wayne Morris). In 'Piccadilly Third Stop' (1960) a team of disparate individuals team up to perform an audacious heist that involves digging through the London Underground where they hope to steal a large sum of cash from a foreign embassy.

Finally, in 'Seven Doors to Death' (1944) Mary Rawling (June Clyde) flees the scene of a crime and coerces passer-by Jimmy McMillan (Chick Chandler) into ensuring her safety. However, when both become accused of murder the pair must work together to prove their innocence.
