The Doors
Ray Manzarek and Jim Morrison already knew each other from UCLA film school. The organist and the singer formed the band "The Doors" when the two met again on the beach in Venice, California in the summer of 1965. Manzarek was enthralled by Morrison's poetic talent and after a legendary performance at the Whisky-a-Go-Go on the Sunset Strip, the "Doors" had their first recording contract with Elektra Records. One of the best debut albums in rock history was created and produced a whole series of hit singles. Apart from the great "Light My Fire", titles such as "Break on Through", "The Chrystal Ship" and the legendary "The End" should of course be mentioned here.
The remastering of the SACD was done by Doug Sax, accompanied by Bruce Botnick, the producer and sound engineer of the "Doors". A machine with a tube output stage was used to play back the tapes to be remastered. The basis for the surround sound was the 96k/24bit files mixed and mastered by Botnick from the original analog masters for the audio DVD release PERCEPTION. For the SACDs, resampling to DSD (without filters) was performed using a Weiss Saracon converter. Gus Skinas of Super Audio Center ultimately handled the pre-production.
A note about this SACD: the original recording was a 4-channel tape. For this reason, the surround sound of the recording matches the room reverb. The initial release of the debut also contains speed errors that were not cleaned up in this remaster for the sake of historical accuracy, as was the case with some other versions.
We recommend the use of "L'Art du Son" CD/DVD conditioner for even more sonic improvement.
